The physiotherapist looked at me and said something that honestly made me uncomfortable.

“Your back isn’t the real problem,” he said. “The way you sleep is.”

I had gone in ready to hear the usual lecture.

Strengthen your core.

Sit up straighter.

Stretch your hamstrings.

I was prepared to be told that my pain was my fault. That I wasn’t disciplined enough. That I needed to try harder.

For almost a year, I had been living with this constant ache in my lower back and hip. Some days it was dull and annoying. Other days it turned into that sharp, electric pain that ran from my lower spine down the back of my leg.

If you know sciatica, you know that feeling.

It’s not just soreness. It’s that sudden line of heat that makes you freeze mid movement.

During the day I could manage it. I would stand more. Walk around. Avoid certain positions. Smile when people asked how I was doing.

But nights were different.

Nights were honest...

I would lie down already tense. I slept on my side because everyone says that’s better for your back. I even put a regular pillow between my knees.

It never worked.

Within minutes the pillow would flatten. My top leg would slowly drift forward. My hips would rotate without me even noticing. And then around 2 or 3 in the morning, I would wake up to that deep pulling sensation in my lower back.

Sometimes it was just stiffness.

Sometimes it shot down my leg.

I learned how to roll over in stages. Lift the leg first. Hold my breath. Turn slowly so I wouldn’t trigger the nerve.

That’s not normal. But it became normal.

When I told the physiotherapist about waking up on the bathroom floor one night because it was the only surface that didn’t twist my spine, he didn’t look surprised.

He asked me to lie on my side on the treatment table.

Within seconds he pointed it out.

“See how your top knee drops forward? That rotates your pelvis. Your lower spine follows. Now imagine holding that position for seven hours.”

Seven hours.

That sentence stayed with me.

I had been stretching during the day. I had been trying to fix my posture. But every night I was undoing it.

He didn’t tell me I needed surgery. He didn’t recommend anything extreme.

He said, “You need to keep your hips stacked when you sleep.”

It sounded too simple.

I told him I had tried a pillow between my knees.

He said, “Not one that collapses.”

That’s when I started looking for something firmer. Something shaped to actually hold my legs in place instead of disappearing under them.

That’s how I found the Orthopedic Pillow – Reduces Back, Hip & Knee Pain.
